VCE VET Certificate II in Dance

Course Objectives:

  • To offer students the opportunity to gain both a VCE subject and a nationally portable vocational education and training Certificate. 
  • To provide participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve competencies that will enhance their employment prospects in the performing arts industry
  • To enable participants to gain a recognised credential and to make a more informed choice of vocation or career path.

What is VCE VET Dance?

VET stands for Vocational Education and Training (VET) and it enables a secondary student to combine education with training to provide occupational or work-related knowledge and skills.

The VCE VET Dance Course can be delivered in two different Programs:

  1. A Certificate II in Dance This is where the student completes the required course work and attains a Certificate II in Dance.
  2. VCE VET DanceIn VET in Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) the student completes a Certificate II in Dance and also completes the required assessment for the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. The student is enrolled within a VCE program and will attain the Certificate II in Dance and a Study Score within their VCE program.

RTO - Ausdance Victoria
RTO stands for Registered Training Organisation. Ausdance Victoria is officially registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority or “ASQA” to issue the Certificate II in Dance Certificate. The service provider is JMAB.

Why choose VCE VET Dance?

Who is VCE VET Dance designed for?

The VCE VET Dance Program is for students that are currently studying dance. The content of the program does not assume that the learner has significant industry knowledge and experience.

Through the completion of the Certificate II in Dance, Students completing VCE VET Dance will receive a nationally recognised qualification as well as a contribution towards a student’s ATAR score.

At JMAB, VCE VET Certificate II in Dance is available to students studying Y10-12

Schedule

The VCE VET Certificate II in Dance program operates during Terms 1 - 3 of the school year, involving 350 hours of training, undertaken over 2 years. Students are required to attend two dance classes in two dance styles per week (practical work) which may be taken internally or externally and costs will vary accordingly. Students to attend special VCE  VET (theory work) classes held once a month commencing Friday 2 February 2018

Term 1  2 February, 16 March

Term 2  20 April, 11 May, 1 June & 22 June

Term 3  20 July, 3 August & 17 August

2018 VCE VET Dance Certificate II Class Times:

Fridays 4:30 - 6:30pm for Yr 11 Units 1 & 2  / 6:30pm - 8:30pm  for Y 12 Units 3 & 4

2018 VCE VET Dance Certificate II Concert Performance / Solo Exams Dates

  • Dress Rehearsal - Friday 31 August
  • Concert Performance - 6:00pm Friday 21 September (Performers called for 4:00pm) All welcome!
  • VET VCE Solo Exams October  - Dates to be advised to each student by their registered Secondary School

Technique Classes:

Students are to nominate one technique class of one and a half hours duration in EACH of their selected dance styles to attend per week from the studio timetable or that of another nominated studio.

2018 Course Costs

2018 VCE VET Certificate II in Dance Course Fees (including gst).

  • $660 per year for JMAB VCE VET Units 1 & 2 Students (theory)
  • $770 per year for JMAB VCE VET Units 3 & 4 Students (theory)
  • $770 per year for External VCE VET Units 1 & 2 Students (theory only**)
  • $880 per year for External VCE VET Units 3 & 4 Students (theory only**)
  • No uniform required but neat, clean dancewear suitable to dance style must be worn
  • Class materials provided

**External VCE VET Students enrolled at JMAB for VCE VET theory only who undertake their practical work at another dance school will be required to attend an audition / interview and an additional $100 has been included in their fees to cover the extra facilitator liaison / coordination / administration between schools.

Fees quoted include GST, admin, insurance and course extras (including Ausdance Vic Enrolment Fee) and are to be paid in three installments over Terms 1, 2 & 3
